Broadcast Technicians

WHYY has several opportunities for per diem broadcast technicians to work in our Philadelphia, Wilmington and Dover locations. We are looking for highly motivated videographers, audio technicians and editors to work in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of three years television news photography experience, familiarity editing with Avid, previous experience with lighting and sound and eager to learn new skills and switch from task to task at a moments notice. These position will require schedule flexibility, including early mornings, nights and weekends. Some local travel may be involved, so a valid drivers license is necessary. The ability to lift up to 25lbs., climb ladders, bend and kneel for extended periods of time is also required. 9/4/08


FM News Director

An exciting opportunity to manage WHYY's award-winning FM News Room for an individual with 5+ years experience managing a newsroom or producing a daily current news and information program; demonstrated effectiveness as staff manager or administrator required. Other requirements include sound knowledge of the legal and ethical standards of broadcast journalism; excellent editoral judgment; well-defined interpersonal skills to communicate with staff and fellow news directors to share content as well as colleagues in technical, production and administrative departments. A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and digital editing experience are also required. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, have experience managing departmental budgets, scheduling staff and resources, and have the ability to produce quality work in a deadline driven, demanding environment. Established contacts with local and/or regional news directors preferred. 9/5/08


Interim News Director, "Delaware Tonight"

WHYY is seeking an interim News Director for its award-winning news broadcast, Delaware Tonight. This position is based in Wilmington, Delaware and requires regular travel to Dover, Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The position will start immediately and will continue through May 2009. This position requires a senior journalist with a minimum of 10 years newsroom experience, with a strong focus on television broadcast news. Responsibilities include managing the newsroom staff and active management of two budgets; therefore, strong supervisory and fiscal management experience is necessary. In addition to newsroom leadership and election coverage experience, the successful candidate will possess outstanding communication, organization and budget management skills. Familiarity with the state of Delaware, as well as Delaware's news and public issues is preferred. 9/23/08


Senior Producer, "Keystone Chronicles"

WHYY TV is seeking a temporary Senior Producer for its pilot series, "Keystone Chronicles." The project will start in early December, and continue for 22 weeks. "Keystone Chronicles" is a weekly news and culture television magazine, that will air on all Pennsylvania Public Television Network member stations, starting in January. Senior Producer responsibilities include forging and cultivating contacts with other producers in PPTN network; reviewing and compiling all appropriate locally-produced content; writing anchor script copy; creating and posting content for website. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience in television news production, as well as highly-developed communication and organization skills. Leadership experience is required, as well as a demonstrated professional ability to work independently. Senior Reporter/Producer, "Delaware Tonight"

Delaware Tonight, WHYY's news and public affairs program which focuses on the news from Delaware and the region, produced in our Wilmington Studio and Dover Bureau, has an opportunity for a seasoned reporter/producer. This fulltime position is based out of the Wilmington Studio and covers the issues and news coming out of New Castle County. The successful candidate will possess three or more years of television reporting experience, excellent writing and production skills, well-developed interview techniques and the ability to generate good story ideas. Must be familiar with the issues relating to New Castle County as well as having an established list of contacts. Must be able to produce quality work with little supervision. From time to time, odd hours may be necessary in order to complete assignments. Interested applicants should include a non-returnable dvd sample of their work with their resume. 10/14/08


Stewardship and Event Coordinator

This fulltime position will coordinate and implement all aspects of Sponsor and Patron member solicitations, renewals and stewardship for the major donor population, including the development and implementation of major donor cultivation events. This position will also contribute content for the major donor newsletter as well as a point of contact for donors. To be successful in this position, an individual must possess a minimum of four to five years development experience, with a focus on cultivating and retaining donors, a successful track record, which includes upgrading mid-level donors to higher giving levels, previous event planning experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other data management software. 9/12/08


Videographer

WHYY is looking for experienced videographers to be called on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will possess 5 years experience, preferably in a news environment; adept at shooting with handheld cameras as well as studio camera operation; knowledge of lighting and audio and familiarity with Avid Media Composer. This is an on-call opportunity; days, nights and weekends may be required. Individuals must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and be able to travel to our Philadelphia and Delaware locations.
