Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site
While living in Philadelphia from 1837-1844, Edgar Allan Poe published some of his most well-known works, including "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," and "The Black Cat." In all, he published 31 stories during his time in Philadelphia, which is said to be the happiest years of his life. The Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site, at 7th & Spring Garden Streets, is a preserved home once rented by the American author, and includes a Poe reading room, a statue of "The Raven," guided and self-guided tours. Free Admission Wednesday through Sunday, 9am-5pm.

The Philadelphia Theatre Company opens a new season with the world premiere of Terrence McNally's "Unusual Acts of Devotion," starring Faith Prince and Richard Thomas, through November 23 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, Avenue of the Arts, Philadelphia.


The 28th Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival kicks off this weekend, with some of the most acclaimed feature films and documentaries of the year by filmmakers from around the world, at the Gershman Y, 401 South Broad Street, Philadelphia. Many of the films are Philadelphia premieres and will not be seen on other screens in the area.


The Unitarian Society of Germantown hosts an Artisans Fall Festival, with juried art & crafts, November 1, 10am-4pm, and November 2, 12pm-4pm, 6511 Lincoln Drive, Philadelphia.


On display at the Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design is "Mary McFadden: Goddesses," featuring gowns, clothing ensembles and jewelry spanning the designer's 35 year career and inspired by the art and culture of ancient civilizations, along with items from her personal collection, in celebration of Moore's 160th anniversary through December 6, 20th Street and The Parkway, Philadelphia.


OperaDelaware performs Puccini's "La Boheme," in Italian with English supertitles, November 2, 2pm & November 7 & Saturday, November 8 at 8pm at the Grand Opera House, 818 N. Market Street, Wilmington, DE.


Academy of Vocal Arts resident artist Cody Austin performs at the 16th Annual Alfonso Cavaliere Memorial Concert, November 2, 4pm, at SS. John Neumann-Maria Goretti High School, 10th & Moore Streets, South Philadelphia, featuring music by the Bel Canto Lyric Opera Company & Orchestra. 215-334-0529
